I AM A BEAUTIFUL STORY INITIATIVE

What if the chapter you are most ashamed of becomes the chapter that teaches you, changes you and gives you the courage to help someone else?

This is the heart of I Am a Beautiful Story.

Cynthia Waggah had never been in trouble with the law. She was living away from home and loved ones, carrying the weight of a frightening lung cancer scare, grieving the loss of her best friend back home and struggling to find a sense of belonging in a new community.

As the pressures of life, grief and loneliness built up, Cynthia went through a difficult period in which her actions resulted in a common assault charge.

From there, she lost everything and had to start from scratch. Rebuilding was not easy. She faced bullying, harassment and theft, adding further pain to an already difficult chapter of her life.

Yet, through the justice and probation system, Cynthia began a journey of accountability, self-reflection and transformation. She learned about emotional intelligence, managing stress, understanding triggers and making better choices. Slowly, she began rebuilding her life, not by pretending the difficult chapters never happened, but by learning from them.

Today, Cynthia believes people should not be ashamed of acknowledging their past, especially when they have chosen to learn, grow and change.

I Am a Beautiful Story is a safe space for honest conversations about the experiences that shape us, including mental health, domestic violence and the real victims of domestic violence, jealous partners, accountability and transformation, bullying and harassment, overcoming shame and stigma, the stigma surrounding surrogacy in Africa, same-sex parenting, living away from home and loved ones, belonging in a new community, and finding a career path in the UK.

Because a person is more than their worst moment. A difficult chapter does not have to become the whole story.
