Thanks to the generous support of the Cumbria Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner’s Property Fund, Afrikana CIC has created a safe, inclusive and culturally affirming space where young people can build confidence, develop new skills and create meaningful connections.
Based at the Afrikana Centre in Carlisle, our Youth Development Programme empowers young people through activities that promote wellbeing, creativity, leadership and employability while celebrating culture, diversity and identity. The Property Fund investment has enabled us to transform the Centre into a vibrant youth hub equipped with essential resources that continue to create lasting opportunities for young people across the city.
What We Offer
Our programme includes:

- DJ and silent disco sessions
- Digital skills development
- Leadership, volunteering and community engagement
Working alongside partners such as The King’s Trust, we create opportunities that inspire confidence, encourage self-expression and help young people develop valuable life skills.
From Learning to Employment
One of our proudest achievements is the development of Rafikiz Lounge, Afrikana CIC’s social enterprise. Young people who join our programme can progress into volunteering, training and work experience, gaining practical skills in hospitality, customer service, teamwork, leadership, event management and DJ technology.
This unique pathway enables young people to move from participation to real-world experience, preparing them for further education, employment and lifelong success.
